Der Titel „Das Gastmahl der 7 Weisen“ bezieht sich direkt auf das antike Symposion, das die Weisheit der Sieben feiert. Platon brachte diese Idee in seinem Dialog „Protagoras“ ins Spiel, während Plutarch Jahrhunderte später mit seinem Werk „Das Gastmahl der sieben Weisen“ tiefer in die Thematik eintauchte und die Lehren der Weisen in einem lebendigen Dialog präsentierte.

The Banquet of the Seven Sages

The title „The Banquet of the Seven Sages“ directly refers to the ancient symposium that celebrates the wisdom of the Seven. Plato introduced this idea in his dialogue „Protagoras,“ while Plutarch, centuries later, delved deeper into the theme with his work „The Banquet of the Seven Sages,“ presenting the teachings of the sages in a lively dialogue. In 2016, Tina Oelker staged a modern interpretation of this concept with Christa Pasch in the vault of the Old Mint in Berlin-Mitte. In her exhibition and installation featuring seven portraits from her „Black Arts Club“ series, seven actors and laypeople performed. They utilized Oelker’s lyrical texts and, at the end, engaged the audience interactively. The seven portraits on the black wall depicted philosophers and free thinkers such as W.B. Yeats, William James, Michel Foucault, and Ludwig Wittgenstein—all active about 100 years ago and part of Tina’s „Black Arts Club,“ which she has been developing since 2010 at Hafentor 7. (The contributors were: Christa Pasch, Ingo Scholl, Philipp Meier von Rouden, Stefanje Mayer, Eva Gabriel Jürgens, Mischa Jank, and Tina Oelker.)
