E 2  is the first painting in a 5 × 5 matrix of 25 individual works, arranged like a Bingo grid. Together, the 25 canvases initially formed one large 200 × 200 cm abstract painting, across which Tina Oelker painted as a continuous image, disregarding the divisions between the individual canvases. Only afterwards were the sections separated and further developed individually. Each fragment became an autonomous painting while retaining its connection to the original whole. Some acquired new, sometimes narrative meanings. The work is an early precursor to Oelker’s later project TOPIA.
